On June 5, Chonnam National University (CNU) celebrated the 73rd anniversary of its founding with a commemorative ceremony held at the Convention Hall on the first floor of Yongji Hall. The ceremony brought together members of the university community, including CNU President Lee Keun-bae, the president of the CNU Alumni Association, faculty, alumni, and staff, to honor the university’s rich history and ongoing mission in higher education.

During the ceremony, the Hugwang Academic Award was awarded to Han Hong-goo, a chair professor at Sungkonghoe University. Distinguished alumni and professors were honored with prestigious awards, including Yongbong Academic Awards, Yongbong Grand Awards, and Proud CNU Alumni Awards. In recognition of dedication, the university also awarded 189 faculty members, 58 staff, and 20 instructors for outstanding in their academic contributions, and 170 individuals were honored for their long-term service.

President Lee Keun-bae highlighted CNU’s future direction rooted in community and global vision. He declared in his commemorative speech, “A university nurtured by the region, a university that nurtures the region—CNU will take the lead.” He further emphasized the university’s aspirations by stating, “With the region, to the world, toward the future—CNU.”
