Chonnam National University (CNU) held a ceremony to commemorate the 45th anniversary of the May 18 Democratization Movement at Yong-bong Hall located in Administration Headquarters on May 16. Numerous people, including CNU President, faculty, staff members, and students attended the event.

In the commemorative speech, the CNU President Lee Kuen-bae said, “Since the May 18 Democratization Movement began at the front gate of CNU 45 years ago, I believe that CNU and CNU members have become the subject of the May spirit. We will inherit and continue to keep this May spirit alive through study and education.”

CNU General Student Council President Shin Seung-hwan expressed in his speech titled A Pledge from the Younger Generation, “We are here thanks to the memory of May 18 and now we take the responsibility to pass on its spirit to the next generation. We will raise our voices against injustice and live a life in solidarity.” The ceremony ended with singing the song “March for the Beloved” that symbolizes the May 18 Democratization Movement.
