Professor Lee Keun-bae (Department of Orthopedic Surgery) was chosen as the top candidate to be the 22nd President of CNU. In the presidential run-off election held on Sept. 25, Professor Lee received 768 votes out of a total of 1,347. Professor Song Jin-kyu (School of Architecture) came in second with 579 votes. Since no candidate secured a majority out of the four candidates in the first round of voting, a runoff election was held for the top two candidates. The election was conducted via online voting under the consigned management of the Gwangju Buk District Election Commission. The two candidates have been reviewed by the university’s Research Ethics Integrity Committee to verify the authenticity of their publications and their research ethics. Providing that both candidates pass their reviews, the CNU Presidential Candidate Recommendation Committee will then nominate both candidates to the Ministry of Education for evaluation of their credentials. After a personal inspection by the ministry, the final decision will be made by President Yoon Suk Yeol, who will appoint one of these two candidates as the 22nd President of CNU. The current president of CNU, Jung Sungtaek will conclude his term on Jan. 14, 2025.
