Professor Lee Keun-bae (Department of Orthopedic Surgery) has been declared the first candidate for the 22nd President of Chonnam National University (CNU) on Sept. 26.  Song Jin-kyu (School of Architecture) has been elected the second candidate for the 22nd President of the university. In the presidential elections conducted by online voting under the consigned management of the Gwangju Buk-gu District Election Commission, Professor Lee was elected as the top candidate with the highest votes by winning 768 votes in the run-off election on Sept. 25. The CNU President Candidate Recommendation Committee will recommend the two presidential candidates to the Ministry of Education. With the Education Minister’s recommendation after the ministry evaluates the qualifications of the candidates, the President of Korea will finally appoint one of these two candidates as the 22nd President of CNU. The current president’s term ends on Jan. 14, 2025.
