Chonnam National University (CNU) held the opening ceremony of the CNU International Summer Session (ISS) 2024 at Cosmos Hall on July 1. It is an inbound program in which CNU invites professors from all around the world to give high-quality lectures for domestic and international students from different countries during the summer break. Students participating in ISS will spend four weeks of their summer break in Gwangju, earning college credits while experiencing Korean culture through several cultural programs from July 1 to July 28.

11 professors from universities, such as Columbus State University, Vilnus University, the University of Winnipeg, the University of Nottingham, and CNU, will be teaching different lectures. On every Wednesday and weekend, students will experience cultural programs, such as “Sunchang Ceramic Tour,” “Touring Yeosu,” and “Watching KIA Baseball Game.” 32 domestic students from CNU participate in ISS as “Buddies,” who help international students communicate all throughout the session. Grace Millee (Dept. of History, Southern Oregon University, USA), one of the students attending the ISS opening ceremony, said, “I am excited to learn about Korean history and go to different historical locations. Especially, I am looking forward to learning about the May 18 Democratization Movement.”
