Chonnam National University (CNU) has announced that it will establish the Graduate School of Glocal Future Strategy to foster world-class future strategic experts who can contribute to overcoming current glocal crises such as climate change and environmental degradation while contributing to a future community of coexistence and cooperation. The Graduate School of Global Future Strategy will offer five majors: climate, environment and energy policies, policies for social justice and human rights, international development cooperation, regional science, technology, and innovation, and smart disaster prevention and safety engineering. The graduate school is scheduled to open in September (at the earliest), aiming to produce 50 new talents every year.

It focuses on research of and solutions to various social crises through scientific innovation, interdisciplinary cooperation, identifying social innovation challenges, developing future strategies, advancing program development, and producing effective policy proposals. The school plans to cooperate with domestic and international organizations, including the Humanities Institute of CNU, the KAIST Moon Soul Graduate School of Future Strategy, the Gwangju Climate and Energy Agency, and Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University. Kim Byoung-in, chairperson of the Graduate School of Glocal Future Strategy Establishment Promotion Committee, said, “The development of climate and environmental resources, life science technologies, and cooperative solidarity for peace are universal values as well as pressing imperatives for modern people. In order to exemplify those values, we will put efforts into cultivating talents through convergence education embracing the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and engineering.”
