The College of Humanities at Chonnam National University (CNU) held a ceremony to mark the opening of the new College of Humanities Building 2 on November 11 at Kim Nam-ju Hall in Building 1. Completed in 1978, the College of Humanities Building 2 has long served as a hub for humanities research for 46 years. However, as the years passed and the building aged, the college decided to rebuild it to provide a more comfortable academic and research environment. The construction began in late September 2023, and was completed in October 2025, taking about two years in total. The new building has one basement level and five floors above ground, with eight department offices and 76 faculty offices, an administrative support office and other facilities.
CNU President Lee Keun-bae, who attended the ceremony, said, “As president, I would like to raise a question: Are we ready to experience the flourishing of software humanities? As we approach the next 50 years in this new building, I hope to lay the groundwork for my dream of making CNU the Humanities Mecca that no other universities can rival during my remaining three-year-term.”

Kang Eun-yeong (Professor, Dept. of Japanese Language and Literature), Vice-Dean of the College of Humanities, announces the progress report on the completion of Humanities Building 2.
