Chonnam National University (CNU) held the 2025 Chuseok Festival at Yongmyeong Hall in the College of Engineering on Oct. 1. The event, organized by the Office of International Affairs (OIA), was designed to help international students experience Korea’s traditional holiday and promote cultural exchange on campus. The festival featured a variety of traditional games such as Ddakji (a paper-flipping game), Archery, Tuho (arrow-throwing), and Alkkagi(stone-flicking). Creative activities like a keyring-making booth and a photo zone with hanbok added to the excitement, giving participants memorable souvenirs and cultural snapshots. Traditional refreshments, including sikhye (sweet rice punch) and yakgwa (honey cookies), were also served, creating a festive atmosphere.

Kate Allysa Macalalad (Ph. D. 1st year, College of Pharmacy) shared her experience. “It was my first time joining a cultural event related to a Korean holiday. I first learned about Ddakji from the Netflix series Squid Game, and it was exciting to actually play it here at CNU. I also enjoyed Tuho, which made the whole festival fun and memorable,” she said. Through the Chuseok Festival, CNU continues to support international students’ engagement while fostering cultural understanding and inclusiveness within the university community.
