'Marigold Mind Laundry' Named the Book of the Year for the 2024 GJRT
Chonnam National University (CNU) announced that Yun Jung-eun's "Marigold Mind Laundry" won the Book of the Year for the 2024 Gwangju and Jeonnam Read and Talk (GJRT) at a ceremony marking the university's 72nd anniversary held at the University Auditorium, Minjumaru, on June 5. Gwangju and Jeonnam residents, as well as CNU students, participated in the annual GJRT event to cast their ballots for the Book of the Year for the 2024 GJRT from April 24 to May 23. A total of 15,970 votes were cast, with 3,923 online and 12,047 offline at local libraries and facilities. "Marigold Mind Laundry" secured the top spot with 4,374 votes among nominated books, including Choe Jae-chun’s "Choe Jae-chun’s Insect Society," Kang Yong-soo's "Reading Schopenhauer at 40," Lee Su-yeon's "The Girl in a Phone Booth," and Jang Il-ho's “A Visit of Sadness.” This year, the library will organize various activities, such as a book talk, literary tours, exhibitions, and a review contest. Since its inception under the slogan ”One City, One Book” in 2013, the GJRT has brought residents together through the shared experience of reading and discussing the same book each year, fostering a vibrant reading culture in the region.
