CNU Celebrates 72nd Anniversary of Its Founding
On June 5, Chonnam National University (CNU) commemorated the 72nd anniversary of its founding with a celebration ceremony at the University Auditorium, Minjumaru. Around 300 attendees, including CNU president, president of the CNU Alumni Association, faculty, students, alumni, and local residents, gathered to reflect on the university's history, current achievements, and future vision.
During the ceremony, the Hugwang Academic Award was awarded to Choi Jae-chun, a chair professor at Ewha Womans University. Distinguished alumni and professors who have enhanced the university’s reputation were honored with awards, such as the Honorary Yongbong Grand Awards and the Yongbong Academic Awards. Additionally, 278 faculty members received awards for excellence, and 145 were recognized for their long-term service.
President Jung Sungtaek said in his commemorative speech, “Founded in 1952 after the end of the Korean War, Chonnam National University has devoted itself to nurturing talent for national development. Now it is time to soar towards the 100th anniversary of our founding. We will strive to cultivate ‘confident and free CNU members’ who contribute to human civilization.”
